As the financial year comes to an end, many business owners are taking a hard look at how their organisation is performing. Are major goals being met?
Right now, I’m spending time with my clients, reviewing the past financial year and planning next year. We are …
“Everybody Needs a Coach”
Eric Schmidt, former chairman of Google and Alphabet, and Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, discuss why they think the right coach can be a company’s most valuable asset.
Every famous athlete, every famous performer has somebody who’s a coach. Somebody who can watch what they’re doing and say, “Is that what you really meant? Did you really do that?”
Coaches give them perspective. The one thing people are never good at is seeing themselves as others see them. A coach really, really helps in this area.
Bill Gates used a business coach. And so have the CEOs of Honeywell International, Home Depot and Harley-Davidson Europe, Ltd., to name just a few.
Why do they use coaches?
Because they realise that to achieve peak performance, they need the coaching process to draw out the best in them.
Like sport, successful businesses require a highly cohesive, culturally strong team of results-focused individuals who are committed to working together for the team win.
It makes sense. It’s the job of the coach to know how to recognise and improve your strengths and weaknesses.
Just as professional athletes use coaches to improve their game, so should entrepreneurs who want to take their business to the next level.
You can’t afford to risk falling short of your most important goals in the time frame you want.
Most importantly of all, successful businesses are guided by a coach and the coach’s repeatable, structured process for the whole team to win.
Successful businesses partner with a Mentor/Coach to create and sustain real momentum and growth in their businesses.
“Great coaches lie awake at night thinking about how to make you better. They relish creating an environment where you get more out of yourself. Coaches are like great artists getting the stroke exactly right on a painting. They are painting relationships. Most people don’t spend a lot of time thinking about how they are going to make someone else better. But that’s what coaches do.”
– Ronnie Lott describing Bill Campbell, Coach to Apple and Google leadership teams, amongst many others.
