Bad news: you’ll never grow unless you figure THIS out.
I remember, just before the first covid wave, telling my wife that I was exhausted.
My business was hard … too hard! I was travelling way too much – both domestically and internationally. I was away from the family far too much.
My business was growing, but I couldn’t handle it. I was close to burnt out.
But I had goals and aspirations. I wanted to grow my business, revenue, and income.
These are things that every entrepreneur experiences.
And I had to find a solution.
My wife is wise. She told (ordered me) to take some time off, to think about my coaching business the way that I think about my clients’ businesses. Did I say that she was wise?
I realised the key to scaling my business.
I had to Strategically Replace Myself.
Bad news: you’ll never grow unless you figure THIS out.
Scaling a business is like a puzzle. To solve it, you need the right pieces.
The key is learning how to strategically replace yourself.
Let’s explore how the three P’s – Processes, Right People, and Productised Services – give capacity back to you, the leader.
- Processes
Processes are the first P. They are your business’s backbone.
Imagine a business as a machine. Processes are the cogs and wheels that make it run smoothly. When you have strong processes, you don’t need to be there all the time. The business can run on its own.
Here’s how you do it:
- Document everything: Write down each step of your operations.
- Make it simple: Use clear language. Everyone should understand.
- Train your team: Teach them the processes. Make sure they follow them.
- Review and improve: Always look for ways to make processes better.
With good processes, your business becomes a self-running machine. You get more time to focus on growth, not just daily tasks.
- Right People
The second P is Right People. This is about having a team that rocks. It’s not just about skills. It’s about finding people who fit your culture and share your vision.
Here’s how to find the Right People:
- Know what you need: Understand the skills and personality types that fit your business.
- Look for character: Skills can be taught. Character can’t. Find people with the right attitude.
- Invest in your team: Train them. Help them grow. A strong team builds a strong business.
- Empower them: Trust your team. Give them responsibility. Let them make decisions.
When you have the Right People, your business grows. You don’t have to do everything. Your team’s got this.
- Productised Services
The third P is Productised Services. This means turning what you offer into a standard package. It’s like a menu. Customers can choose what they want. This makes things easier for you and them.
Here’s why Productised Services work:
- They’re clear: Customers know what they’re getting. No surprises.
- They’re efficient: You know exactly what to deliver. It saves time.
- They’re scalable: You can sell the same thing to many customers.
With Productised Services, you create a business that’s easy to scale. It’s simpler to manage and grow.
Conclusion
Scaling your business is about working smarter, not harder.
By focusing on the three P’s – Processes, Right People, and Productised Services – you create a business that can grow without you always being there.
It’s about building a machine that runs itself – a self-managing company.
This frees you up to focus on the big picture.
Remember, you can’t scale unless you figure out how to strategically replace yourself. With the three P’s, you’re on your way to doing just that.
If you feel like you’re doing everything, tired, and losing hope that you’ll be able to grow, I’d have you look at these 3 P’s as your starting point.
Cheers,
Jonathan
